1.INTERMEDIATE MUSICAL THEATRE CLASS!!
Since there was a high demand for Musical Theatre this year, Melissa has decided to offer an Intermediate Musical Theatre class open to dancers ages 9-11. This class will be held on Thursdays from 5:00-6:00 in Studio A and Melissa will teach it. Musical Theatre is a great class to add to a dancer’s repertoire. It teaches stage presence, expression, mnemonic skills, acting, dancing and builds confidence & self-esteem. It also educates dancers on famous Broadway Musicals. Melissa carefully designs her class with fun, drama exercises that build group awareness, agility, readiness, anticipation; all skills required for dance & Broadway. This class is now available through our online registration until September 9th. After this date, registration will be taken through the office until September 12th. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AMAZING CLASS TODAY!
Take a look at our YEAR-AT-A-GLANCE on the Newsletter page of our website, to know all the important dates for 2018-2019. Some dates are deemed as “potential dates” until we receive confirmation from École secondaire catholique Thériault.
3. OBSERVING CLASSES IN STUDIO A
We ask that all parents/friends observe classes from our large viewing area. There have been parents who give themselves permission to stay in the studio during class and this is unacceptable. We are trying to create a non-distracting learning environment for our dancers and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Thank you.
We will submit refunds until October 8th 2018. After this date, there will be no refunds given. No exceptions.
5. MKDA POLICIES
Please read our “MKDA Policies” on the FORMS page of our website. There is essential information you need to know about MKDA and we never like to leave people in the dark. Read, read, read! Thank you!
6. NEW TO MKDA?
If you are a new dancer to MKDA, we will have placed you in a class according to your age. In the first three weeks of Term 1, teachers will closely assess all new dancers to make sure they are in the correct class for their skill level. If the teacher feels as though you are not in the correct class, changes will be made the first three weeks and the instructors will speak directly to you, the dancer, or the parent. Teachers will either move up your child or bring them down a level. We want to nurture a positive learning environment and want every dancer to feel comfortable in their level of learning.
7. TEACHING TECHNIQUE……THEN RECITAL CHOREOGRAPHY
The first 8 weeks of Term 1, teachers will be busy teaching technique and skills in order to prepare for recital. In the 9th week of Term 1 (week of November 5th), choreography for recital will begin which is a CRUICIAL time of the year for attendance. At MKDA we have a “rule of 4 classes”; which means if a dancer misses more than 4 classes in the time we start teaching recital choreography, it will be to the teacher’s discretion to decide if the dancer will participate in the recital. Recital choreography is a GROUP EFFORT and requires dedication, attendance & weekly improvement. The learning of choreography slows down when dancers miss class. We encourage parents to film all recital routines on a weekly or bi-weekly basis so that dancers have a video to refer to while practicing at home.
