COVID-19 LETTER #6

Dear valued clients of MKDA,

 

We want to thank all of you for being so patient, understanding and supportive throughout the past 5 months.  It has been a tough time for all; time of drastic changes, navigating through the unknown, and patiently waiting for government instructions.  Since we have been given the green light to reopen in Stage 3, there are a few points we would like to touch on:

 

Recital 2020:  We have made the very tough decision to call it a year. We will not have a recital in August.  We would not be able to find a space that will accommodate 50 people while respecting the rules of social distancing.  Furthermore, the idea of holding a non-audience recital does not appeal to very many dancers or the MKDA staff.  These dancers have worked very hard and we do not think it is fair for them to perform their routines in an absent venue.  Some of our teachers may bring back routines for next year’s 2021 recital.  We will play it by ear.  This will all depend on a number of things such as:  Enrolment, on the teacher who is teaching the class, on the dancer’s ability to remember the choreography, on the costumes etc.

 

Costumes:  Believe it or not, we are still waiting on companies to ship the costumes to us.  Once we have all costumes here at the studio, we will notify everyone for a “COSTUME PICK UP DAY”.  The dancer will receive their costumes if the balance of their account is at zero.  We were asked the question:  “What if we don’t want the costume anymore, do we get a refund?”  There are no refunds on costumes.  MKDA has had to pay the costume companies in full in December 2019.  These companies will not give refunds on costumes due to COVID-19, therefore MKDA is not in a position to give refunds.

*We do ask that you please take care of your costumes once you receive them just in case the teachers decide to reuse them for recital 2021.

Picture Day:  Again, since social distancing is an issue with group photos, we have decided to cancel picture day this year.  However, there are many dance parents who have organized individual dance pictures with local photographers and they turned out beautifully.  This is a great idea if some of you would like to do that. 

 

Registration for the 2020-2021 dance season:  We are eagerly getting all the information ready for registration.  Registration will remain online as it has been for the past few years.  We have attached a document that will help you know what level to register your child.  We offer many different levels of every genre and we understand this can be overwhelming, therefore we have made it very clear what level is next for your child.

By August 8th, registration will be up and running on our website:  http://www.themkda.com.  You will be able to view our schedule as well.  We ask that all of our clients familiarize themselves with our new “HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS” stated on the HOME page of the website.  It is a new normal and everyone must abide to these protocols until further notice from our health officials. 

Since online registration won’t open until August 8th and since we plan on starting classes on September 14th 2020, there will be no “Early Bird Discount”.  Here are the options for payment:

  • MKDA will keep the tuition fees the same as the last 3 years.
  • Upon registration, you will be asked to select “PAYMENT IN FULL” or “PAYMENT BY 5 MONTH INSTALLMENTS”. If you select “payment in full”, you are eligible to receive our “multiple class discount”. If you select “Payment by 5 month Installments”, there will be a $5/per month administrative fee added to your total and the “multiple class discount” will not be applied.
  • Upon registration, you will be asked to pay the recital costume fee of either $100 or $150 per class. Should the teacher decide to reuse last year’s costume, your account will be credited.  If the teacher decides to reuse the costume but does not fit your child anymore, we will keep the fee and order your child a new costume.
  • For payment methods, we are offering four ways to pay:

#1:  Payment in Full using PayPal

#2:  Payment in Full using Automatic Withdrawal from your bank account

#3:  Payment by 5 month Installments using PayPal

#4:  Payment by 5 month Installments using Automatic Withdrawals from your bank account.  (Withdrawing the day of registration and on the 1st of every month for the next 4 months.)

 

  • Due to COVID-19, we will not accept cash or in-person registration. Everything must be done online.

 

Limited Enrolment: Due to social distancing rules, we are putting a class size limit on each class.  Depending on the class location (studio A or B) and the genre of dance, we will be capping our classes between 12-20 dancers.  Once the class reaches maximum capacity, the class will not be able to be selected for registration and you will see the words “CLASS FULL” beside it.

 

Outstanding Accounts:  We will not accept registration if the dancer’s account is outstanding from the 2019-2020 dance season. Emails have been sent out to those with outstanding balances.  All outstanding accounts will be sent to the Credit Bureau.

 

Aerial Silks & Ukra Hip Hop: Sadly, because of COVID-19, we are unable to offer Aerial Silks or Ukra Hip Hop.  It is impossible to wash all the silks between each class and Ukra Hip Hop requires a lot of partnering movements; therefore we have decided to temporarily cancel these classes for this year.
