Julie Prévost is a member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, stage division (CDTA) and is a certified Acrobatics Arts teacher. Julie has been an experienced dance instructor and MKDA family member since the academy’s inaugural year. Julie has 25+ years of dance experience.
Latin dance, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acrobatics
Brandon is our award-winning dancer/choreographer, obtaining Judges Choice Award at various competitions and scoring Lightning Gold and Superior Awards. Brandon has recently trained with the industry’s top professionals in Los Angeles! His certifications include: Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association Merengue branch and he also recently received his certification with the Acrobatics Arts.
Jazz, Tap and Musical Theatre
Stephanie comes to us with much expertise in Tap and Jazz. She has successfully completed her dance exams with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) and we welcome her 15+ years of dance experience. Stephanie continues to teach dance as an extracurricular activity at Sacred Heart School.
Derek Franklin is the newest addition to the hip hop faculty. He brings with him energy, creative & innovative choreography, fresh teaching techniques and loads of enthusiasm. His love for the art of dance and of dance education is evident in his work. He is excited to bring his passion to MKDA!
Mona Mick-Jones has been the main instructor for the Mick School of Dance for over 35 years. In those years she has taught ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop and ballroom. The school was registered with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association for over 40 years. Mona has studied with “Les Ballet Jazz de Montréal”, “The Studio Dance Theatre”, “Randolph Academy of Dance”, “Quinte Ballet School”, and also with Al Gilbert of Los Angeles, California in which she has followed his graded dance technique. One of the highlights in her dance career was when she danced on stage with the former actor-dancer Gregory Hines. She is looking forward to teaching at MKDA this coming dance season
Melanie Black is a fully certified level 1, 2 and 3 Theory Gymnastics; level 1, 2 and 3 Technical Gymnastics; and Practical level 1 and 2 Gymnastics through the NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program). She is also certified in level 1 and level 2 Trampoline certification through the NCCP. Melanie also has qualifications in judging and has over 24 years of experience in gymnastics and acrobatics including 17 years of coaching/teaching experience. Melanie brings her knowledge and talent to the MKDA family ensuring that each child obtains their full potential.
